Tesla in Time

The future wasn’t very futuristic before Nicola Tesla arrived.

It is said (on Wikipedia) that Nicola Tesla died of heart failure, some time between the evening of 5 January and the morning of 8 January 1943, at the age of 86. I can tell you without a doubt that this is not the case. Tesla faked his death just before activating a time machine and arriving in the year 2220. I was the first person to meet him there, in the city of Toronto. He needed lodging until he could accumulate the resources to begin again his experiments. I owned a small bed and breakfast at that time.

He told me that the people of the 20th century simply did not possess the faculties of foresight and imagination requisite to appreciate his master projects. This reminded me of a very old film I once saw entitled, “The Prestige.” As busy as he was, Nicola Tesla could not resist the temptation to see a film that idolized himself as one of the characters. He found the film entertaining, but in regard to the sciences, he found the it to be rather quaint and vague. “Still, it is true, I might have made a pretty penny if I had taken up the life a master magician rather than that of a master scientist,” He confided, chuckling in a sweet tenor.

In time Nicola Tesla moved away; to America, or Japan, or Sweden. He wrote from time to time, and of course I always read about his latest feat in the headlines on the blogs. My companions always found it strange that anyone should still write letters in longhand. I thought it was nice that he did not change his habits simply to suit a new environment.

I never did see Nicola Tesla again in the flesh, but I did have a reunion with Tesla the machine. The new Tesla dressed as the old one, but had several useful abilities. Most of these were mental in faculty, but a few were physical. He was stronger for one thing. His hand shake nearly crushed my hand to pieces.

The new Tesla came bearing gifts. One of these, as you may have guessed by now, was his old time capsule. The very same one that the old Tesla had used to come to the future. Now that he had in immortal form, he did not think he should be needing it to get to the future, and Tesla held no interest in the past. I accepted gladly. And, as you can see, I used it to bring myself here and tell you my tale.
