Qubits

Teleportion of information developed rather quickly on planet earth. It was not long after humanity began to use the technology that they made remote contact with other intelligent creatures in the Milky Way.

Many of these creatures had very strange custom, and even stranger conditions for humanity before any sort of official embassy’s could be organized. 

The Splurkin were translucent, water dwelling creatures. Their planet was completely submerged and quite a bit smaller than earth. They did not have very advanced bone structures. They were incredibly offended that humanity could not perform all of the important and dignified gestures that were required by law to ratify treaties. It took the lawyers from both planets well over a year to translate an agreeable peace document into existence.

The Pyglots lived on a very ionically charged world. They communicated using a form of ionic telepathy. It took humanity twenty years to convince the Pyglots that they were in fact intelligent creatures despite the obvious deficiency of lacking telepathy.

Of course, not all creatures were such critical judges. many warmly welcomed humanity and managed to quickly bridge gaps of culture and communication.

The Terdon Tith had a world religion founded on pleasure. They fell in love almost immediately with humanity’s massive entertainment industry. The only real arguments between the two groups revolved around whether or not sex was better than art.

Perhaps the strangest race that humanity encountered was the Decrathi. They were a race of solipsists, almost completely in their own worlds. Each time contact was made with one it was like making contact with a completely different species. Apparently, they didn’t even really understand that making contact with humanity was any stranger than making contact with each other. Perhaps they were right and it wasn’t.

As humanity expanded its interplanetary contact list, it continued to grow and expand both philosophically and technologically.

Eventually this process of expansion would even take place between humanity and creatures from other universes.
